Patrick McDonald

This is my 8th year as a teacher at PHS and my 18th year as the boys varsity coach at PHS. I also serve as the Scholar's Bowl sponsor sponsor.

Taught ED 537, Teaching General Science in the Secondary Classroom from 2009-2013

Taught at Riverchase Middle School from 2004-2016 as a 8th grade physical science teacher. Served as the science department head from 2013-2016 before transitioning up to PHS in 2016.

After organizing the first soccer team in Riverchase Middle School history and winning 83 middle school games, Coach McDonald took over the Pelham High School boys program in 2007. Pelham was a three win team in 2006 and Coach McDonald rebuilt the program into a perennial playoff team since taking the job. Coach McDonald is 243-148-30 overall in 17 seasons at Pelham and has reached the AHSAA playoffs 12 times. In 2017, Pelham won its first state championship in boy's soccer. In 2022, Pelham lost in double overtime in the state finals and finished as state runner up. The team has advanced to the state Final Four 6 times in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022. Pelham was also #1 in 6A when the season was ended due to Covid19.

Coach McDonald lettered in soccer for four seasons at Hillcrest High School 1993-1996 and played at the University of Montevallo 1999-2000 for Coach Rob King.

Coach McDonald is married to the former Ginger Hand of Jemison, Alabama. Together they have two children, Conner (17) and Anna (15).
